REDSTONE ARESENAL, Alabama — More than a decade ago, Col. Nat Causey wore an Army uniform and served as counsel for a staff judge for the U.S. Army`s Aviation and Missile Command at the Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. Today, he is again in a business trial as the new Chief Advisor of the Command and is responsible for all legal support to AMCOM`s general, staff and subordinate organizations. “Accepting the position has been a great honor,” said Causey, who retired in 2013 with 28 years of active service. “I really enjoyed serving AMCOM and my family and I love the Huntsville area. The offer seemed like a perfect step for my civilian career. AMCOM`s legal office is part of the U.S. Army Materiel Command Legal Center at Redstone Arsenal, which supports not only AMCOM, but also most of the organizations that lease the arsenal. The most common legal work at AMCOM includes acquisitions and contracts, labor and labor law, and investigations, Causey said. Causey`s military legal career began in 1985. Early on, as a young captain, he was drawn to contract law and continued to seek difficult assignments in contract law as he rose in rank. His experience also includes roles as Chief Counsel for the Office of the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Army at the Pentagon and as a military professor who teaches contact law to other soldiers and civilians at Judge Advocate General`s School in Charlottesville, Virginia; the U.S.

Military Academy at West Point, New York; and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Fort McNair, Washington, DC. When he retired from active duty, Causey was selected for a position as a civilian lawyer in the CMA`s Office of Command Counsel. He was appointed to senior management in April 2018 as Chief Advisor to Army Contracts Command. Causey assumed the role of Chief Counsel of AMCOM`s legal office in October. 28, with the Commanding General of AMCOM as the main client. “It`s like coming home,” Causey said. “Many of the same people I used to work with are still here – it was wonderful to step into a new role and see so many smiling and familiar faces. They are an excellent team of legal experts. That “home” feeling also extends outside the office, Causey said.

Causey grew up in a military family that moved frequently, so there wasn`t a specific place he wanted to call his hometown, he explained. “Until I was transferred to Redstone Arsenal in 2007,” he smiled widely. “This is the longest time we have ever spent in one place. My family and I love it here – we`ve made it our hometown. Causey and his wife Pam have four adult children and three grandchildren – he smiles again when he mentions that he and Pam have been married for 31 years and that two of their children and one of the grandchildren also live in the Huntsville area. “We are very fortunate to be able to live in such a wonderful place,” he said.
