The Free Representation Unit (SRF) is a charitable organization that provides legal advice, case preparation and advocacy in the areas of employment, social security and certain punitive damages tribunal cases. The clinic is open to students with an interest and knowledge of environmental law. We strive to meet the professional standards applicable to the legal profession. However, we are not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and do not consider ourselves a law firm. The Free Legal Advice Clinic provides the local community with free, confidential and independent legal advice in their clinics, giving students the opportunity to gain practical experience in the legal profession. It covers all areas of civil law, with the exception of immigration and provided that the case is not too complex and that no legal proceedings have been initiated. Student roles range from receptionist to office manager to legal assistant and consultant.

We are currently unable to operate a whole bunch of clinics due to Covid-19, and those that are operating are operating virtually. Students conduct interviews and provide legal advice while being supervised by a lawyer and/or lawyer. Looking for free legal advice? The clinic`s legal focus will be to advise and prepare new asylum claims, an area considered underserved in the current legal landscape and intended to complement the work of law firms and other service providers in London. The Schools Consent Project is an advocacy initiative that visits schools to discuss the legal definition of “consent” and major sexual offences (including “sexting”) with students between the ages of 11 and 18. This is a 3rd year clinical option module available for LLB in the 3rd year who can complete a course that ends with a journal of reflection and an internship in a legal centre/counselling centre. This is a great opportunity for students to learn presentation skills in a particular area of law, and students are trained before going to class. You will be asked to indicate your preference for a clinical project when you register with BVS LLM (Clinical Legal Education).

This organization has partnered with a local law firm to provide free legal advice in two areas of law: the student roles are those of legal assistant and student director. If you are selected to join the clinic, you will experience a range of labour law issues and see the advice of lawyers. The clinic operates monthly with the last clinic in June of the academic year. The Refugee Law Clinic, which is conducted in collaboration with two law firms, also offers lawyers the opportunity to do volunteer work within the clinic. We also offer free legal assistance to in-person litigants (LiPs) who appear before the liquidation court on Wednesdays. We work from Consultation Room 17 of the High Court, Rolls Building, Fetter Lane, London. The University of London (UoL) recently launched the Refugee Law Clinic, which provides pro bono legal advice to refugee clients based on a clinical legal education model for its diverse student body. Access to Justice – In addition to academic values, the clinic has an added value of commitment to access to justice.

We believe there should be fair and equal access to advice and representation, as well as services that help people enforce their legal rights, hold the state accountable and achieve equitable outcomes. This is a partnership clinic that works with a large law firm where their lawyers advise clients at Blackfriars Legal Clinic on contract disputes, employment and housing – see dates. Students interview clients and pass on the information to lawyers, and students visit the Waterloo clinic on a Wednesday evening. They accompany the lawyers to the clinic and observe the legal advice. The City is proud to partner with the Environmental Law Foundation. We operate this clinic both as a legal counseling clinic and as a political clinic. During the COVID-19 crisis, we still offer free legal advice, but all appointments will be held virtually via videoconference or conference call. This is a unique legal opinion.

However, consultants are not able to represent your case. During the internship, students help at the consultation clinic, carry out road law projects and attend hearings with lawyers. Lawyers offer free legal advice and representation to LiPs. Students will attend lectures with the lawyers and watch in court the submissions to the judges of the bankruptcy and corporate court. Students have the opportunity to advise and represent clients before the Labour and Social Security Courts after undergoing a training programme and intensive support from FRU`s legal advisers. Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 17:30 On Wednesdays, the legal clinic is open from 18:30 to 20:00, but access to public computers is only possible until 18:30. The UoL Refugee Law Clinic is an intercollegiate project of the University of London and at the time committed to the participation of ten member institutions of the university, each of which will send students to volunteer at the clinic.

WED: Legal Clinic 6:30 pm – 8 pm – ring the buzzer (access for computers until 6:30 pm) Research and legal activism Participation in legal activism and research initiatives related to access to justice and social justice issues. The clinic is supported by student volunteers from the city`s Law School. A volunteer will call you on the Monday before your appointment to find out about your problem. They will share this information with the lawyers who will do all the necessary research before meeting with you on a Wednesday. This year we are working with 9 other universities across the UK on a climate change policy paper. We encourage you to play an active role in the day-to-day operation of these projects and in the development of new and existing projects through the Pro Bono Society. Vocalise is an award-winning volunteer program launched by Gray`s Inn that has become the center of debate in City since 2010. One of the great advantages of studying at City Law School is the opportunity to have access to central volunteer services. This gives students access to more than 200 organizations looking for volunteers. GDL students at City University are trained in the law of school exclusion and discrimination based on disability by Sarah Hannett, Director of the Lawyer, who has expertise in each of these areas. Vacancies are advertised through the Pro Bono Society. Please register with the FRU to be informed of the next training date. This project will not take place in the summer of 2021 due to the global pandemic. We will host a conference with a lawyer via Zoom.

Please submit an application by completing the pro bono insolvency program application form. Children with disabilities and special educational needs are at a much higher risk of being permanently excluded and therefore need greater protection and a stronger voice. This is an educational service rather than an advisory service, so clients who take other steps are either referred to appropriate partners or allowed to contact our lawyers directly. Please email the company`s insolvency clinic on companyinsolvency@city.ac.uk. Most law students can either do this as a pro bono activity from the end of their second year LLB or GDL by contacting the FRU directly, or choose it as an option subject on the BVS LLM, with their involvement in a case then evaluated as part of the BVS process. The sessions cover the full range of business issues facing small and growing businesses, from business creation and partnerships to insolvency. City University offers one-on-one appointments with a lawyer who specializes in labor law in all areas of labor law.

Our pro bono programs have grown to include a number of partner programs and include our flagship clinic of free legal advice. This project offers free advocacy to help parents fight against the permanent exclusion of their child.
